This story has it's good moments, and the world building/concept of the gods is interesting and unique, but the animosity between Iris and Roman feels super manufactured, and the entire premise of two teenagers working as anything more than interns for a newspaper feels incredibly unrealistic. Yadda yadda it's a fantasy novel blah blah... No. Just no. And isn't it kind of ridiculous that they're not supposed to read the competing newspaper?? In real life, it's vital to know what your competition is up to.
Also can I just bitch for a second? I'm so freaking tired of reading about teenagers in general, but good god, please save me from stories about CHILDREN getting married and professing eternal love, yikes.
I don't plan to read the sequel.

“But time will slowly heal you, as it is doing for me. There are good days and there are difficult days. Your grief will never fully fade; it will always be with you—a shadow you carry in your soul—but it will become fainter as your life becomes brighter. You will learn to live outside of it again, as impossible as that may sound. Others who share your pain will also help you heal. Because you are not alone. Not in your fear or your grief or your hopes or your dreams. You are not alone.”
Okay google, play "Work Song" by Hozier, "The Great War" by Taylor Swift, & "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish.
"Take my hand, close your eyes, now feel." This book was magic. Pure magic. I was captivated from the first page; the manageable world-building drew me right in. I literally dreamt of this book when I was not reading it. I could visualize everything so vividly; the characters, the setting, the sights, sounds, and smells. I mean, I literally felt like this was a movie playing in my head. The fact that this is also the second book in recent reads to drive home the thought that "you are worthy of love. You are worthy to feel joy right now, even in the darkness." is so relevant and beautiful and maybe if I read it enough, it'll stick. This book is so beautiful, read it.
I will say, I was not prepared for the ending. As I got closer and closer to the end of the book I kept thinking about where the story was going to go. I mean, we were at such a good place until the last ~50 pages. Upon finishing, my only thought is, "I immediately need to pick up [b:Ruthless Vows|196928388|Ruthless Vows (Letters of Enchantment #2)|Rebecca Ross|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1692124081l/196928388._SY75_.jpg|94100488]."

Okay so this was the cutest book. I was skeptical when I first heard about it since it was labeled YA. I loved Rebecca’s Elements of Cadence duology though, and it came HIGHLY recommended by a friend so as soon as I saw it was a BOTM, I added to cart! It didn’t feel like a true YA though, and I loved it so much!
I was LIVING for the letters back and forth. I wanted to skim the rest to just see what they said to each other (I didn’t, but I really wanted to!). The friendship they created via letter was so special.
Since Divine Rivals was about waring gods, the author threw in some cute lines any time we would use the term “god” in a phrase. “Oh my gods”, “gods forbid”, “gods willing”, “good gods”, “my gods”. Any time I saw any of these, I giggled ☺️
Hours after I finished this book I wanted to start again. I just absolutely loved it and I cannot wait for the next one. Just give me a title or a release date PLEASE! Because that ending!!! 😩 How could you do that to us?!?
