Okay so this was the cutest book. I was skeptical when I first heard about it since it was labeled YA. I loved Rebecca’s Elements of Cadence duology though, and it came HIGHLY recommended by a friend so as soon as I saw it was a BOTM, I added to cart! It didn’t feel like a true YA though, and I loved it so much!
I was LIVING for the letters back and forth. I wanted to skim the rest to just see what they said to each other (I didn’t, but I really wanted to!). The friendship they created via letter was so special.
Since Divine Rivals was about waring gods, the author threw in some cute lines any time we would use the term “god” in a phrase. “Oh my gods”, “gods forbid”, “gods willing”, “good gods”, “my gods”. Any time I saw any of these, I giggled ☺️
Hours after I finished this book I wanted to start again. I just absolutely loved it and I cannot wait for the next one. Just give me a title or a release date PLEASE! Because that ending!!! 😩 How could you do that to us?!?

I love the writing. I love the characters. The world building is gripping. The plot had me hooked.
My opinion: 3.25/5 stars - while I can tell that this is an objectively good book, it wasn’t for me and left me wanting more. Slow to start, slow to continue, and unsatisfying in the end. The book was very well-written though.
Summary: Iris is an 18-year-old girl who, after experiencing both personal and professional losses, takes a position as a war correspondent and heads to the front lines of the god was to find her brother. The B-plot is that Iris has a magical typewriter and has unknowingly been sending letters written on the machine (and intended for her brother) to a mystery man, who happens to be her professional rival, Roman.
Honestly not sure how else to explain what this book is about without spoiling anything because basically nothing happens that was entertaining to me so I feel like I’ve already forgotten the plot.

Rebecca Ross' [b:The Queen's Rising|35098412|The Queen's Rising (The Queen’s Rising, #1)|Rebecca Ross|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1498236653l/35098412._SY75_.jpg|46990492] was one of my least enjoyable reads ever, so the word skeptical to describe my feelings about her new series was an understatement. However, I was pleasantly surprised.
This turned to be a really nicely written story with characters that were so easy to care about and fall in love with. The romance was really well-executed - not a top tier thus far, but nonetheless enjoyable and seamless.
The best part: how difficult it was to put down.
