I loved everything about Scandalous Women - it was so clever the way history intertwined with fiction and made for such a fabulous story so much so that I wish it were all true!
It’s hard to forget the struggle that women had in all areas of life and this book highlights perfectly the sexism, misogyny and downright maleness of the publishing industry and no doubt other industries during this period. These women had to fight hard for everything they wanted and so rightly deserved.
I loved all of the characters and the story and throughout the book I kept googling people, books, stories etc - I love it when a book gets me that involved and draws me in. I’ve just reserved Valley of the Dolls from the library too.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone, it is so much fun!

I can remember reading Valley of the Dolls, in the 1970s and it made quite an impression on me, but I had no idea what Jackie Collins and Jacqueline Susann had gone through to get their books published.
Truly, Scandalous Women is not only informative about the book publishing world back in the 1960s, but some parts are SO entertaining to read! I happily recommend this book!!

The second I saw this, I knew I wanted to read it - growing up Jackie Collins were my Gen X, way-too-young-to-actually-read-them intro to spicy novels and I read them for years - this was basically the most sex education I received. Jacqueline Susann, of course, brought us Valley of the Dolls, which was also a very enjoyable and precautionary book that I enjoyed in my late teens.
William Morrow was kind enough to send me an advance copy and I started reading the second I downloaded it.
Told in three voices - Jackie Collins, Jacqueline Susann, and Nancy - publisher’s assistant. I was equally interested in all three voices and their stories, and read this one voraciously. My one complaint about this would be that Nancy’s cousin seemed less a full character than a tool to advance the main story and word count.
This was my second novel by the author and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I love reading historical fiction books about something I don't know that much about and Scandalous Women delivered! I liked reading about these two bestselling authors and what they had to endure being women in the industry. I also really liked the character Nancy even if she was purely fictional. The only downside to this book is that I now I want to read the books mentioned in it and I want to read more of Gill Paul's books!
