I didn’t realize this book was a sequel until I started the audiobook, and I incorrectly assumed that it wouldn’t be a big deal to read without having read the first book. There were initially tons of references to the first book, and while they did a good enough job recapping, it also made me feel like I had missed out on a lot of character dynamics information. This made it tough to really get into the book. There were parts that I liked, such as the dynamic between the aunts and learning about some of the challenges that the characters face as immigrant families within the Asian diaspora. The plot, however felt a little too far fetched, and over the top. I understand that is part of the humorous, romantic comedy genre sometimes, but this particular story about a wedding being ruined by the mafia just didn’t live up to the expectations I had in my head when I initially picked up the book. Overall, this story was okay. I was hoping it would be a little more like Crazy Rich Asians, but it wasn’t quite on that level.

Ehhh. I cannot suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy this sequel much. Also Nathan's parents were so horrible, with no resolution, that I finished the book just annoyed? As always, Meddy's family is intense and so lovable but it wasn't enough to make this a good book. 3.0

“Over the years, when the men in the family left, one by one, my mother and aunts have shown me what it means to pick up the broken pieces of your life and keep prodding along until everything’s okay again. Through everything I’ve never once questioned whether or not they’ll be here for me.”

I was really excited to read this because I absolutely adored the first book in this series but unfortunately I was disappointed in this one. It wasn’t nearly as fun and entertaining as the first one and at times it was really hard for me to suspend my disbelief with all the ridiculous things that happened. I did, however, love the overall message this book gave about family. I probably won’t be picking up the last book in this series but if I do it’s because while I didn’t enjoy the plot of this book, I still absolutely adore these characters.

This was so bad. There was nothing realistic about this at all. Everyone who was fun last time was a bad caricature of an Asian person this time. And everyone acted so dumb! It was so frustrating.

Listened to the audiobook and I must say it's much better than the written one (which I DNF-ed). It's funny and light and just what I needed in an audiobook.
