Oooh...this volume brings in some new characters with new Quirks. Yay. I love the new details we are learning about Pop Step and Knuckleduster in here as well, and in some of the bonus content it was mentioned that Knuckleduster has a serious storyline coming up, so I'm excited to see that. This volume also had a couple special issues, which gave more insight into both Aizawa/Eraser Head and Toshinori/All Might. They were pretty intriguing.

We meet Makoto and an American hero moved to Japan, Captain Celebrity.

Captain Celebrity is basically everything you’d expect from a stereotypical American. He’s pompous, flashy, obnoxious, and really only in it for the clout. Furuhashi claims he’s more complicated and gets better, but I’ll just have to take his word on this one. As of now he’s just a douche, not a fan.

Makoto is Tsukauchi’s younger sister with a polygraph quirk where she can tell if someone’s lying after asking a question if touching them. She goes to college with Koichi and recruits him to help her get data for her thesis which is basically questioning the nature of heroes. She’s immediately suspicious that Koichi is the crawler tho everyone calls him the cruller so when she asks he truthfully says no. It’s cute because Koichi clearly thinks she’s hot and that really pisses off Pop which is precious. I ship him with Pop quite a bit.

We meet Koichi’s mom too who basically thinks he’s always been a fool for going out of his way to do hero stuff and is very judgmental of his choices. She even brings up him being late to his school exams when he’d saved Pop which naturally upsets her, but he doesn’t know she’s the kid he saved that day. Also she preciously dressed up for him to meet his mom, probably also to pretend to be the girlfriend he told his mom he had which is too cute. Even Knucklebuster shows up in casual wear to meet his mom, they’re all adorbs. But of course hijinks ensue and they all end up trapped on a runaway bus where Koichi reveals he’s the crawler to Mokoto in saving her life. She seems cool so I’m not worried about her doing anything to reveal their identities and I think she’ll be a good ally for the group.

Then we get a cool lit scenes of the pros meeting to discuss the rampant quirk booster drug which is causing regular civilians to act as villains so they need to be careful who they attack. We see Endeavor in the height of his jealousy of All Might, not a cute look. He’s so wrapped up in his envy that he’s not too great at his job, a wild contrast to what he’s grown to be in the main series now. But an interesting peak into his past. This is also when Midnight decided to join UA and is the one to recommend Aizawa as a teacher as well, precious angels. It’s kind of crazy he hasn’t been teaching for that long, but I guess we don’t have an exact year of when this takes place, just that it’s clearly before the events of MHA.

We also get to see Tsukauchi and Small Might first teaming up n its adorbs. I love getting to see All Might in action and especially love getting more Tsukauchi, I love all the pro content it’s really cool. I love our Vigilantes but getting info of the main cast of characters as well is really such a treat. Love this spin off, just such a fun expansion of an already great world.

My favorite volume of Vigilantes so far! New characters, more connections to MHA, character development for all three main characters.
