Having grown up religious, Transcendent Kingdom resonated with me in a very special way. The inexplicable nature of the world, along with the tragedies that come with being human, can be hard to grasp at times. Yet, despite the universality of these themes, the story comes across as deeply personal. It feels human, honest, and real. It captures the experiences of many immigrants, those who have lost loved ones to addiction, and people who have grown up in difficult households. This story could be anyone’s, yet it feels uniquely intimate.

Its beautiful but heavy but beautiful. I only didn't really liked the ending. It was too suddenly, for me.

Lovely, powerful novel. A coming of age, an immigrant story, a mother/daughter story, an addiction story, but the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. Gifty is a remarkable heroine, and her long winding journey to self awareness and forgiveness are deeply moving.
