Sarah A. Chavez's beautiful All Day, Talking is a chapbook-length exploration of grief through a series of letters to Carole, a dead beloved. Through the speaker's ongoing, one-way relationship with Carole, Chavez excavates the experience of loss and shows how our relationship with the dead changes and evolves as we continue, somehow, to move through the world without them. The book's speaker is by turns sorrowful, angry, flip, and loving to a Carole who is both gone and always present. There is restraint and authority in these moving poems, and I look forward to reading more from this poet.
