*DNR”. I picked up an audiobook of Dragonia on Stuff Your Kindle day for free. Dragon story? Yes please. But this narration was awful and boring. It actually put me to sleep. I could not finish it. When I looked closely to the narrator I realized it was an AI voice. Real human narration is so much better. I will avoid all AI narrations in the future. This is no criticism of the author or the story itself.

Amazing first book in the series, really enjoyed it.. The detail in the writing is incredible and you picture the story in your head as you read, a good introduction to characters and how they interact with each other, and you lean about the different dragons ... Cannot wait to read the next book in the series

The world of Draconia with dragons and dragonriders. This was a fun book to read. I enjoyed something different than vampires all the time and dragons are fun to read about too. It was a fun adventure. I'm not sure how the author came up with a good action adventure like this one but I went along for the ride. *This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.*

This was a fun story. It begins with Devarius and a small group of fellow survivors on the run after their village was destroyed by dragon riders. The Dragonia Empire was trying to make an example of a village that housed members of the resistance but didn't count on having anyone escape to tell the tale. It's even more problematic when we learn that no one in the village was actually a part of the resistance - the village was scapegoated as part of a much larger plan to strike fear in the hearts of anyone who dared consider resisting. Devarius and company decide to join the resistance because it is the only option left to them. Epic fail on the part of the empire. The first half of the book involves them constantly running and hiding and getting caught and almost getting caught and escaping and being betrayed. Fun! The second half of the book is all about training with the resistance and trying to find a way to beat the empire at it's own game. Along the way, they discover an as-yet-undiscovered island filled with wyverns. Can they be trained and help in the fight against the empire? (Yes, they can.)

I enjoyed the story and the pacing and most of the characters, however, there were a few issues. First, racism was acknowledged at the very beginning of the story, then it didn't impact the story in any way. So why was it brought up in the first place? Second, the treatment of women was annoying. Aquila sounded pretty awesome. She and Devarius had been best friends forever. They had been secretly in love with each other forever. But he wouldn't tell her because he thought she deserved better, then it turned out that she deserved better because he was going to leave to find her sister and this reflects badly on him and his character how? Also, he wouldn't allow her to fight alongside him because he would be too worried about her to focus. Dude, get over yourself! You are vastly outnumbered and need all the help you can get. I kept waiting for her to pull an Eowyn and join the battle anyway. Oh well, maybe next book. But yeah, I'm hooked. I'll keep reading.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly. The narration was superb. I'll listen to Reuben Corbett any time.

I listened to the audiobook of this one, and my review title was "a fast-paced start to a fun-looking series."

Here goes:

The Dragonia Empire has held the land in its thrall for too long. Devarius, orphaned at a young age (yeah, yeah, I know) escaped, but his sister was taken. Years later, Devarius' new home falls foul of the Empire again, but this time manages to lead a small party away while the Empire's dragons destroy his village (don't let him into your house). He vows to seek out the resistance, and finally gain revenge for his family and hopefully find his sister. How can they fight the mighty Empire? The clue is in the title - wyverns.

I liked this one. While the plot is nothing you haven't read before, it's darn entertaining. The first half of the book involves Devarius and his band hiding from the Empire while seeking out the resistance. The second half has them training as fighters and then training with the wyverns (if this is a spoiler, welcome to your first fantasy novel).

The pacing is great, no endless exposition at the start, just jump straight in and run for the hills (literally). The characters are likable, although the baddies are a bit lame, but we don't see much from them as most of the story revolves around Devarius. The story isn't long, and it's part of a series, so there's plenty of time for improvement there. It's also pretty funny. Not Kings of the Wylde funny (what is?), but definitely chucklesome.

The narrator did a fine job, mastering the pace and providing a distinct array of voices without feeling the need to murder too many accents. He also made sure anyone who would miss out on the wry comments in the book, definitely heard them on audio.

All in all, a fun tale. Definitely a "when's number two coming out?" job. 4/5 is a bit harsh. 8.5/10 is a better estimation, in my amateur opinion.

What a ride!

Dragonia: Rise of the Wyverns was definitely my kind of adventure! It starts off with one of those beginnings like Jurassic Park and just gets even better from there.

I ADORED the characters! Every one of them were so unique and well developed. And the dragons and wyverns? They were flawless! The story has a good pace, not too slow, but not rushed either.

And the narrator did a stupendous job at reading. I loved his accents and character differentiation and he was amazing at telling the story with the necessary emotion. I was also immensely pleased that there was no cursing or sexual content either, just some mild kissing. Though the action definitely gets vivid and gory at times.

So overall, I loved this audiobook and will definitely need to finish the series! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I received this audiobook from the author via Audiobookworm Promotions for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
