I felt nothing. This has received so much praise and I wonder why Out of the easy hasn't, when the latter has interesting and multilayered characters, while this did not. I feel like the heavy topic was only used for pity, instead of as a platform for a heart-wrenching story with much more to it.

This was such an important story.

It was beautifully written, and I hadn't heard much about this side of the war. I thought it was a very interesting, emotional and important read. The characters felt real and I cared for them. My only complaint would be the ending, which felt very abrupt and unfinished. I would have preferred it if it was slightly longer.

I don't even have words to express how good this book was. It was so intense, and so heart-wrenching. I think I cried more times reading this book than I did reading The Fault in Our Stars! I'm not sure which book I like better, TFiOS or this one! The one thing I didn't like about this book was the ending.

Everyone would love this book. I picked it up thinking it was going to be a bad book about war in the 1940s but I ended up loving it! (:
