This was simply okay. It felt a little repetitive at times and I found many of Stephanie’s decisions to be …. questionable … her pride got in the way a lot when it came to her trying to get ahead.
I would have liked her to have gone more into a solutions based reflection on social welfare. She talks a lot about the stigma of food stamps, the stereotypes she was met with while trying to get herself out of a bad situation, and she doesn’t hold back on criticizing the hoops of the system. But I would have liked there to be more discussion on why these services are the way they are, and some conversation on reform.
Her comments complaining about not being able to buy organic milk with her food stamps rubbed me the wrong way…. I agree that the program is oftentimes too restrictive when it comes to what is and is not “allowed” (and in my opinion, needs a complete overhaul) but her complaining about how much sugar and hormones are in normal milk just seemed crazy to me. I feel like a lot of things about Stephanie’s views and perspective on life was left unsaid.
