“Watching your beloved be trampled and ridiculed with your own eyes and being unable to do a thing about it. You understand that you are nothing, that you can do nothing. That’s the worst suffering in the world.” - HC

“To me, the one basking in infinite glory is you; the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is you, not the state of you.” - XL

“Only since meeting you have I rediscovered how simple it is to be happy.” - XL

Blackwater arc was so so sad, Qingxuan deserves so much better. But the amount of HuaLian we got in this volume gave me life. They truly invented love and no one can tell me otherwise.

"If I like something, then my heart has no room for anything else. I'll always treasure it. A thousand times, a million times, my feelings won't change no matter how many years pass."

I died multiple times, and be resurrected back, and died again, and resurrected again.
That's volume 4 for you.
Also, the cover!!!

"Only since meeting you have I rediscovered how simple it is to be happy,"

*dies again*

Some spoilers ahead!

First off I want to say that this is not what I expected to happen after the introduction of the Venerable of Empty Words. I don't know why I was expecting some sort of silly little mission surrounding the wind master and end in a silly little resolution where no one is hurt and perhaps a little mission to reveal some background information on the officials involved. I can say that was um... not the case. I mean, yeah, we did get a lot of background information on the Wind and Water masters as well as the Earth master but that shit definitely didn't end in a silly little resolution. I bet He Xuan probably has Shi Wudu's head on a pitchfork in one hand to wherever he's going while dragging Shi Qingxuan by the hair with the other hand. I read somewhere that this book went from "fun to funeral real fast" and I second that comment.

Next, let's talk about HuaLian because what the FUCK. I have never seen Hua Cheng that disheveled and Xie Lian handled it no problemo. You could clearly see the push-pull between both of them and it hurts my heart like just get together already come on. And the coffin scene had my toes curling and my feet kicking fr.

Okay, okay the third act. Bestie, Ling Wen, what the hell. I hope there is some sort of misunderstanding in the next book because as one of the ONLY female heavenly officials that were even worth mentioning in any of the books, I do not need to be attacked by an arc of bestie committing some sort of criminally offensive crime (and side-eye). But that meatball scene was HILARIOUS.

And please, someone get Guzi back. Qi Rong probably abandoned him on some road. I also realized that the author (or the translator idk) really likes to use the phrase "___ didn't know whether to laugh or cry."
.
.
like always, I shall leave a coherent review in the morning. But I am very disappointed in Ling Wen.
