The author says this is a "fun" book. He and I are very different. This is a difficult, painful, horrifying book. But I found it worth it. It is not, despite the opening, a romp with an annoying and ironic alien. It's about killing and damnation and prime numbers and the destruction of everything good. I do not finish most books like that. I finished this one.

There might be a sequel. What happens after the destruction of everything??

wish there was more math and alien science and less military nonsense
challenging dark emotional tense fast-paced

When your singular alien super bad is so much OP that the entire second act devolves into nonstop global nuclear missile strikes then what is the actual point of this story or the characters? While the opening chapters are exciting, the story devolves into a nonsensical militaristic mess that is over-inundated with heavy metaphysical concepts that don’t distract from the pointless gun heavy plot.

All I wanted was the next Baru and instead there is Exordia…..
