Loved the beginning! Love the conceit of passions introduced. Lost me a bit when the focus shifted from main human and alien to a bunch of humans (all on me, I'm aware) but some very particular scenes at the end really threw off most of my joy with the book. I won't go into any spoilers, though. Overall, I enjoyed it! Looking forward to what Seth Dickinson writes next.
Bonkers. Multi-snake headed aliens, Kurds scorned for impassible choices, childhood friends running secret ops within secret ops, maths, stories, explosions and violence. Bit of a slog but I enjoyed it.

I cannot stress enough how much this author needed an editor with a machete. Great potential idea that meshes first contact and Western Imperialism with a cool alien made tedious by excessive unimportant rambling. At one point some character (who even cares which one) says ‘I just want this to be done forever’ and girl, SAME.
