not my favorite kristin hannah but still a really sweet & heartwarming story! made me cry ofc
This backlist book definitely is not on the level of The Nightingale or The Four Winds, but I’m still very glad I read it.
In some of Kristin Hannah’s other books, it doesn’t feel like a plot at all, but a window into real people’s lives. However, in this one, it felt like a traditional story arc that I was disappointed to easily predict.
The characters didn’t feel as fleshed out as many we meet in Hannah’s other novels. For example, the daughter’s angst felt manufactured to give her room to grow instead of an authentic young girl’s pain. I had a really hard time picturing her.
Even if I didn’t feel as connected to the characters, it was still a heartwarming story, and it’s not spoiling anything to say that it’s a wonderful advocation for organ donation and an unapologetic champion of strong family values. I couldn’t help picturing Jimmy Garoppolo as Angel, and that significantly added to my enjoyment of the book.

A disappointing 2⭐️. How could the same person that wrote The Nightingale have written this? Time and growth I suppose.
This book for starters, just wasn’t the genre for me. A Hallmark movie in book form, stuffed full of cliches and cheese. I predicted the storyline before it even began, and the ending dragged on way longer than necessary.
The characters weren’t that likeable. I loudly groaned when it was Lina’s POV. And a ghost POV? That just did me in.

Francis deserved to live. Angel and Lina were assholes cut from the same cloth. Mad could have used some therapy. This book wouldn't end. Way longer than it needed to be. I like Kristin Hannah but this wasn't one of her finer works.

A beautiful story that enchanted me from beginning to end.
I try not to give every Kristin Hannah book a 5 star rating, but I just can’t help it! They are just that good!!

Hannah's got some good books, but this is not one of them. So much narration, very little action. Predictable story line. Just overall meh.
