Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors and I have read most of her books. I can definitely tell her storytelling and character building has improved a lot with recent novels such as The Nightingale, The Great Alone and The Four Winds. This book is an earlier novel and it was way too "Lifetime Movie" with a predictable story and was very unrealistic. It also included all the formulaic plot points: teenage pregnancy, angsty teenager, broken heart, someone dies. I think the main issue I have with the novel is with Angel Demarco. I really struggle with his character and it is unbelievable that he can change his ways so easily.

I kept reading because I really thought it would get better. I really did. But it didn’t. Angel is a spoiled brat with serious issues and he just stops one day and becomes a functioning human being?? Not believable. Madeline should have been with Franco. I know he’s a priest. But he loved her. And she loved him. That would’ve been a better story line. I’ve read three books of Kristin’s and have been disappointed each time. I loved the Netflix series firefly lane. Loved it. But could not get through the book. It was just so boring!! Same with this one. I think three strikes and you’re out!

Cotton candy predictable, but I bought it as a beach read and that’s what you look for in a beach read, right?
