A sweet little love story that is a heartfelt. It is a bit predictable and sappy in parts but it's a quick read that warms your heart.
This is a 2.5 for me. Everything felt so random, kind of like I was starting in the middle of a story. And the entire plot felt the same way. I didn’t really see a greater point in the story because I felt like I was missing some sort of beginning. And I love Kristin Hannah - but this one felt so disjointed and thrown together for me. I felt like the main arc of the story wasn’t even necessary, or maybe it was going for some metaphor I didn’t follow. A swing and a miss for me.
This was a fine fluffy read, but I saw the twist coming and was disappointed when I was right

It made me emotional multiple times but ultimately, the characters were frustrating and the plot was hard to read. I almost stopped reading it early on. I’m glad I finished but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this book.
Reading old Kristin Hannah books really shows how a writer can grow. She was a decent and successful writer but around 2010 she really upped her writing game. Her novels became meatier and less romance focused.
This is in the earlier category. I think I've grown as a reader, too, because I used to enjoy an early Kristin Hannah book but now I only want the meatier ones.
Home Again pretty much follows what you expect, Bad boy returns home to find that the girl he left, the one he thought was having an abortion, actually raised their daughter alone. Bad boy has an enlarged heart and needs a new one. Lucky for him the girl he left is now a cardiologist! One who, according to her daughter, is busy all the time, but all we ever see is her holding her new patient's hand and ruminating. Lots and lots of ruminating by everyone in this book.
Before the surgery, bad boy is true to form. Amazingly, even though he can't even walk across the room he manages to get a bottle of tequila and a pack of smokes in his room! Not quite sure how he managed that since all his Hollywood friends abandoned him. In the real world, no one would have given him a donor heart because you wouldn't want to waste it on someone who was going to throw it away and everything he said and did demonstrated that he would.
After the surgery, of course, he's a new man. Seriously, he doesn't slip once after he gets the new heart. Even when his manager tracks him down in a house he bought yesterday, the same manager who never visited him at the hotel. Manager shows up at his the house his former girlfriend showed him and arranged the closing for in one day with (another) bottle of tequila and some cocaine, has a 5-minute convo, and walks out. That was some trip to Seattle!
You know at the outset that the bad boy will become good, will make an honest woman out of Madeline, and become a good father to his daughter - literally overnight. In between times they all lament, dither, ruminate, self-flagellate, etc., etc., etc.
It would've been better if it were cut by a third and the characters were less one-dimensional.

I hate how predictable this story was. I knew what was happening right away-- and yet I still found myself entertained and interested in the characters. Read this book in one sitting.
yeah it was predictable but it was still a great read that I had a hard time putting down. I have yet to come across a Kristin Hannah book that I have not loved.
I've read a few pf her books now and sadly I don't seem to have enjoyed them very much except, Great Alone, which got 4 stars. This was rather forgetful and not much that stood out in the story. But I'm not ready to give up on her books just yet! My library got quite a collection of her books I haven't read and maybe I'll hit jackpott one day and truly get why Kristin Hannah is so beloved. She isn't a bad writer, I just haven't been over the moon for her books just yet
