I would give this book a solid 3.5. It is good, but knowing what Kristin Hannah can do (Nightingale, Four Winds, Etc), I was expecting more. It makes sense though, since this book was written in the 90s…2 decades before her [incredible] historical fiction novels. Fun to see how Kristin has evolved as a writer!!

Oh, Kristin Hannah.. If you know you know.  A story filled with tragedy, love, and finding beauty in the human soul.
Chance encounters  with the past can be dangerous, but Kristin Hannah weaves a tale about a small town boy gone Hollywood having to return to his roots or it will literally mean death if he doesn’t.
In true fashion of one of Kristin’s books, there were tears shed.  The reasoning up to the reader, and I encourage you to find out for yourself.

Quote #1:  “Home is a part of us.  It’s in the scars we have on our knees and elbows, in the memories that surface when we sleep.  I don’t think you can ever really leave.”

Quote #2:  “Another tiny piece of the puzzle fell into place – love meant always being a little afraid.”

It was good capturing the sullen and misguided teen well.

This was different than the other Kristin Hannah books I’ve read. It was more of a romantic story about loss, love and the hope that people can change.  It was a quick read.
