I was thrilled by Mona Awad’s ‘Bunny’ so I thought I would be into this one.

Very bizarre, very intriguing storyline! I didn’t know Shakespeare’s ‘All’s Well’ play at all but could still read Awad’s story. It wasn’t my favourite out of her stories, however I was still HOOKED into this Faver/Miranda dynamic and the way in which women’s pain is always belittled and ignored 😳 ‘Maybe it’s all in your brain’ lit a fire under my ass and made me rage 🔥

3.5 out of 5 stars for me on this one 🥹 Thank you!

I appreciate that the author was experimenting with a unique writing style. However, the main character’s neurotic ramblings make it very hard to connect with the story and the rest of the characters. Most of the action of the story feels very removed from the main character, who’s very passive and placid for most of the story. Also, a lot of the details don’t feel fleshed out enough, like the main character’s relationship with her mother.

I did like the Weird Brethren and all their sinister shenanigans. And I was very interested in Ellie and how she would affect the story. Although I wish the author had been more clear on exactly what happens at the end of the story. It ends a little too mysteriously imo.

I devoured Bunny, and devoured All’s Well just the same. An extremely clever book with a challenging main character and witty writing. Captured women’s pain as well as relationships (with oneself and with others) with chronic pain so well. Can’t wait for more Mona Awad books!

i loved the unhinged and delusional woman trope. this book was a fantastic dive into the realms of pain and the loss of reality. a great book tbh
