Would be a 5 star book but the ending leaves me with a lot of unanswered questions. Other than that, I love how Mona Awad’s stories are always trippy, off the wall, disturbing, and unpredictable and All’s Well does not disappoint on any of those marks.

“All’s Well is the story of a woman at her breaking point and a formidable, piercingly funny indictment of our collective refusal to witness and believe female pain.”

This is my second Mona Awad book, and I’m pleased to say that I’m absolutely hooked! Awad combines surreal elements to set a haunting dream-like stage (pun intended) that is both humorous and completely subversive. There are Chuck Palahniuk elements in both All’s Well and Bunny but still reads as something original. This is the novel I was most excited to receive an eARC for, and it lived up to all of my weird girl expectations (and then some). Do yourself a favor and preorder this book immediately!

Release date is August 3rd.

Thanks so much to NetGalley & Simon and Schuster for this eARC in return for an honest review!

I don't think I can review this book in any way that is helpful to anyone. This book is For Me™, and I recognise that it is not For™ a lot of other people. This book hurt to read in a way I still think about a month after finishing it, and I don't think I have fully processed it yet. I relate to this book on such a level that reading each word felt like pulling out teeth. I would flip each page with my heart bleeding in my chest.

I don't think you will like this book if you haven't experienced pain to such an extent the world around you makes you feel crazy. And even if you have, this might completely miss the mark for you. It's fevered, long, anguished, and tedious. You can argue it's too long and meandering, relentless and voyeuristic—all valid, to be fair.

But if you have struggled with pain so severe it makes you feel insane, as if you're living behind glass and each breath feels like a punishment from the universe – this book might feel comforting. For you, it is a hug, an acknowledgement, a mirror: something freeing.
