pretty good set of short stories, some of them are a bit weird and have weird morals (ie. pro invasive species bc they are adaptable) also some aspects were kind of weird about Indigenous communities, specifically the Winter of Men story being set in colonial New France and sort of glamorized

was hoping i'd like this book more than i did tbh:( overall, it's quite interesting and is the type of book I'd enjoy dissecting with greater depth in a class or a book club or something. as a casual/for pleasure read though, i have mixed feelings about it. my fav stories were "rock jenny" and "archipelagos" and the others were just ok or confusing imo. this is a super short book though, so I think it's worth reading through if you enjoy short stories and don't mind lots of body horror.

I’m not sure Winter Of Men really achieved what maybe it set out to, and it was a little long and a little confusingly written, but the other stories were all good, particularly Rock Jenny (shades of A. S. Byatt), Archipelagos, and title story A Natural History of Transition.
