My second try reading this, because I want to know what’s coming up in House of Dragon. I liked the Game of Thrones series, but this was just too dry for me to want to carry on with. Reading it felt like a slog.

George R R Martin has brilliantly developed a complete world full of compelling characters and innovative storylines. Fire in Blood reads like a history book retelling the story of Westeros with the introduction of Aegon the Conqueror to the island. While I’m a huge fan of the series and lore at large, I do find his writing to be difficult to read and this novel in particular to be more repetitive than the main series.

Overall worth the read if you like the lore, but definitely skippable.

giving up at 85% and finally freeing myself of this hellscape

this was the most useless thing ever and so insanely boring, praying the future of hotd is more entertaining

The book was a slow start, taking around 50 pages to get used to the style of the book. I had to get into the habit of skimming through the half a page long list of names that would prelude any event or battle. But once I got into the flow of the book, it was very enjoyable. I've heard that GRRM is lazy with his names, but Kermit and Elmo Tully?? That got a nose exhale out of me but took me out of the book. Also, I know that one of the sources of the story is a septon, but almost all the dates falling on the 7th of the 7th or other uses of 7 got tiring after a bit. And if we got another date, it would be something like the 2nd of the 5th month (2+5=7). But overall, the stories were very enjoyable and learning about each king and queen was fun.
