Really enjoyed reading this book. Understood more of Daenerys origins. The start of legendary Aegon the Conqueror, recounting the generation of Targaryens. I know this is part one and part two in the works. Have to wait for part two to come out and continue reading this intriguing story line that put an end to the Targaryen rule. Fascinating the imagination of the author.
I bought rhe book cause the series is so intriguing that I couod not wait for season 2 to come out but the writing style of the book is so different, I feel like I am rrading a long history of similar names
As a worldbuilding exercise, it’s 5/5. As a read is a 3.5/5: some stories are amusing, some clarify many aspects of the main saga, but some are frankly a bit boring. Anyway, I’m overall happy I read this. Also: the audiobook version is excellent BUT it’s hard to keep track of the seven thousands characters introduced in that format.

5 stars. the craziest, most addictive fantasy generational soap opera about one of the cuntiest fictional families of all time that ive ever had the pleasure of reading, written as if it were the most hardcore fucking history book in existence. this was my first real taste of the ASOIAF franchise and now i truly understand just how brilliant and immersive this whole world is. i devoured it faster than i thought i would and honestly had way more of a blast than i expected to.
the seamless transition into the different eras of the targs, to all the supporting characters and small back stories and short tales interwoven with the general plot points were all written so masterfully that i couldnt truly find it in myself to feel like some parts were dragging on bc everything about grrm's writing (specifically in this book) was truly thought out to the last detail. it's insanely impressive.
now i could do without all the misogyny and casual mentions of rape and abuse but then again, if no such things happened then it wouldn't be considered "historical" i guess. anyways i gotta say, i dont always fuck with good old mr. martin but his imagination is way too vast and cannot be wasted and when he cooks, he COOKS. absolute mad man.

im not even gonna be patient enough to go through all the warning tags bc duh. this is a george rr martin book. a hardcore historical medieval high fantasy. goes without saying, you should expect the usual. incest, rape, abuse, colonization, war violence. proceed with caution.
Ugh, why did i persist and finish this book. Waste of time.
George R. R. Martin is easily the Tolkien of our era.
Fire & Blood is fake history; but it is damn good fake history. I read this huge tome in one sitting and have not regretted it a bit. My only hope is that he will live long enough to write a similar history of The Long Night. Please, god, George, just do it.
