For anyone interested in GOT and or ASOIAF, this is written more like a history book than like a typical book.
It’s not gonna be as fun or fun in the same way as the main books.
This isn’t complete as the sequel is supposed to be done in between winds of winter and the last book. Went on for too long and could’ve been broken up better. Also very hard to keep track of EVERY character and to know if they matter or are minor.

This took me so so long to read, but that wasn’t its fault.
I really got into the ‘history book’ telling and it didn’t dampen the storyline or my interest at all, in fact, it would not be the same book without it.
Obviously I’m distraught by what’s going to happen to my girl Rhaenyra on the show now that I know, but at least I have time to mentally prepare!

I never knew?!? Fantasy histories could be?? A genre??!?!
But i was absolutely riveted to this telling of the Targaryen kings from Aegon the Conqueror (of Westeros) to Aegon III. The much-referenced Dance (or Dying) of the Dragons is told here, and it is wrenching

While I really struggled getting through the middle of this book, I did really enjoy the historical narrative! So much fun to hear about names and places that are referenced in the ASOIAF books or the shows. I did bristle a little bit when the narrator referenced other materials because frankly I do want to read about the women of the aftermath.

This book was okay. It was like a history book with anecdotes sprinkled in. I enjoyed learning more about the characters and realms Martin created but I wouldn’t have been able to make it through the book if I hadn’t switched to an audiobook. I am glad I read it.
