A little like reading a history book, of a made up history, but really enjoyable. 4.5 ⭐️
It was thought to get into, but once we got to the reign of Viserys I things really picked up
I liked that it was written as a history rather than a narrative. Makes it fit nicely into the world of Westeros as we have come to know it.
My copy had an interview with George R R Martin in the back which was also interesting but also sad because Winds of Winter is seemingly less of a priority. We might get a sequel to this book before we get that one. Just glad he’s still writing!!

It lagged a bit in the middle but the last 1/3 more than made up for jt. I listened to the audiobook but when I decide to treat myself to all the book is the ASOIAF world I’m definitely going to reread it to annotate. The political aspects are so interesting and you can definitely see how certain dynamics set the stage for Robert taking the throne. 10/10 recommend reading if you enjoy the books.

Picked up this book after watching the first few episodes of House of the Dragon and realizing there was no way I was going to have to wait a whole week before figuring out what happens next. I have tried reading the Game of Thrones books in the past and, while interesting enough, they weren't able to pull me in as other fantasy books might have. That was not the case for Fire & Blood, as soon as I picked up this book I could not put it down.
Fire & Blood takes the unique route of being written as a historical book from within the universe, which may not work for all but certainly worked for me. While the book explores the entire span of what is contained in House of the Dragon, I was surprised to find myself more interested in the Targaryen history explored prior to the events of the show. A must-read, if you can manage the textbook-esque format.
