It's no Penguin Problems, but it is cute. The giraffe only has one problem--his long neck--and many attempted solutions.

It's fine.

I loved this. It's a great book to use for talking about differences, and how they make us better together. And of course, the illustrations are amazing.

Giraffe is mortified by his long neck. He wants to be like other animals. Then he meets turtle who shows him how remarkable his long neck really is. I hoped this book would work with younger students, but it is a bit text heavy for them. I tried just going through the book with Ada and looking at the pictures, but all she really wanted to do was look at the section where Giraffe is hiding.

Poor Edward the Giraffe is extremely self-conscious about his enormously loooong neck. He’s sure everyone is staring at it all the time. He has tried everything imaginable to hide it or make it blend in, but no such luck. But one day he meets Cyrus the Turtle and he learns just how wonderful his neck can be. In the end, Edward and Cyrus feel much better about their necks. Plus, they both made a new friend!

Oh, how I know how Edward feels!! I’ve always said I have a giraffe neck (and love how scarves cover it up and make it less giraffe-like). Made me giggle all the way through 😊

Giraffe is certain this his neck is his worst asset, but when a friend is in need, he learns to embrace what he once believed was his biggest flaw. Sometimes our insecurities become our greatest strengths.
