You ever read a book and feel like your heart is being ripped into pieces moment after moment? That is this book. I feel like I spent so much time with my eyes stinging holding back tears and then once they started, they didn’t stop.
Bones - the FMC I want to hug and never let go. She’s had a terrible life and the trauma is heart wrenching. She doesn’t trust anybody nor let them in.
The found family in this book warms my heart. Through all of the pushing Bones does to keep herself distanced, these individuals show her love and compassion.
This is not a happily ever book. The emotional damage is 10/10 in my opinion and I’m still sitting here reeling from it tearing up while I write this.
If you’re looking for straight romance…this is not the book for you. We get a front row seat to the trauma Bones faces. If you love books that wreck you? Here it is 🖤 Highly recommend and I’ll be diving into book 2 pronto.

I liked this one a lot. It’s not exactly my typical genre and while I’m still gonna classify it as horror because many of the events are suitably horrific and gorey. Like the 1999 classic the mummy at the hart of this one is a love story that’s just as pleasant. The world building is fun especially in the first two thirds of the book. post apocalyptic but far removed and yet so reminiscent of our current world.
The last maybe 15% was such an unexpected heartbreaking and welcome twist and definitely a big part in the high ranking so if your unsure it’s a definite stick it out book for me though tbh I was already enjoying it until that point. The crescendo is ballsy and memorable for SURE.
I do whist that the cast had been cut down maybe one third. I felt like there were so many characters introduced in rapid fire that they didn’t truly get a chance to breath, this is especially true with the female characters. They all either suck (not as characters just as people) are children or don’t get much action in the actual story, most of the time being talked about by men as opposed to doing the taking. Madame is a great villain but I wish bones could have forged a close female friendship with someone her age (or older or even with sky) however we have two more books to go and if this changes as a set up I don’t mind it so much.
Not only will I be reading the next books I will be buying them as well!

It had so many layers, so many twist.
I felt so much throughout this book,
this book will hit you with all the feels.
Bones endured so much in such a short time.
I can't explain without giving too much away,
but this is one of those books/stories that stay with you for a very long long time. I have a serious case of book-hangover.
