this is my review for the whole thing, which i read in a single sitting.
like the two other fujimoto's other works that i've read: you will have no idea where the fuck the story is going. i don't think he did either. this is both a blessing and a curse. it at least kept me interested enough to read the entire thing in one go (i think if i read this over a longer period of time i would've given up after volume 5 or 6), but not having the entire series planned out leads to somewhat anti-climactic endings for certain plot points (and some which just are forgotten completely) and long drawn out sections where the plot spins in place trying to figure out what to do next. this leads to some interesting subversion of expectations (including some subverions of subversions of subversions) but i have no idea if these were intentional or just the author going "i've killed the main villain and every single side character halfway through the story, what am i going to do now? let's just reset everything." or "the hero can't get revenge because this character died off screen. actually, he's alive but the hero decides to be the bigger person by not getting revenge. actually, wait no, he does get revenge because i've changed my mind."
some of the story beats are unnecessarily try hard edgelord in the beginning, but it gets better later on.
the art is great. fujimoto does v good art.

When i first picked up this manga i didn't know much about it, So as i started to read it i found that it was interesting, had some very dark themes, However i could get past them and keep on reading. Later on i just got confused by some of the elements that were put into this manga and I didn't know if I would want to read more of it, as it became a bit of mess.
