“Is it breaking your heart?” My fiance asks as I’m about 58% through the book.

Yes. Every step of the way to the point where I feel like the super sad parts are just super sad with the rest of the book.

Will re read in the future, just to study the writing.  loved the writing, and the fluidity and poeticness of it all.
Felt like i was underlining a sentence that was beautifully written at least every page if not every other.

Incomparable.

  • There was a lot that I liked and a lot that I didn’t like in this book. Starting with the writing style, it seemed to alternate between overly poetic and floral language that means a whole lot of nothing, to being sharp, dry, and to-the-point. While I could appreciate the poetic writing at times, (and a few lines really stuck with me), overall it was too much for my liking. Most of the time I had no idea what he was talking about or trying to convey. Meanwhile, the straight-forward writing was a relief, told a great story, and at many times, was surprisingly hilarious.
  • Not much actually happens in the book.  As someone who usually prefers plot-orientated books, I found this pretty slow. However, I can’t deny that the way the themes were explored were done very beautifully and thoughtfully.
  • One line that I liked very much - “Outside, the hummingbird's whirring sounds almost like human breath. Its beak jabs into the pool of sugared water at the feeder's base. What a terrible life, I think now, to have to move so fast just to stay in one place.”
  • Overall, it was a slow and heavy book that was contrarily written very prettily. It was interesting, and I can appreciate it, but not really my favourite.
