This book was recommended to me by a friend. I am very interested in the subject, so I scooped it up almost immediately. I was disappointed - I felt like most of the book just stated what I already knew to be true. But I think that was my fault - I approached the book with expectations of it being more of a “how to” and less of a “why you should”. I did appreciate the list of books in the back and her rationale for selecting them. If it weren’t for that, I’d have given this book 2 stars.

This book has made me fall deeper into love with reading, both as an individual and as a mother. It is FULL of amazing book suggestions to read aloud within your family, breaking them down by age range and maturity. I borrowed this book from the library, but 4 chapters in I was on Thrift Books searching for a copy - I knew I needed it in my collection to reference back to often!
. Absolutely adore. Even as an avid reader, who loves to read to her kids, I found this book so informative, assuring, empowering, and pleasant. It’s not rocket-science, but being intentional about the way we read and talk about books in my home is important to me.
But. Nearly everything in the book is head previously on her Read Aloud Revival podcast. This is just a different format. I was, however, a Sarah Mackenzie fan before, listened to the audiobook so her reading it felt very much like the podcast.
She’s also Christian and makes a few references to her faith throughout the book. I didn’t find it troubling or preachy, but I can see how someone who doesn’t believe the Bible to be true could be deterred. Orrr how someone looking for more faith-based recommendations would be disappointed.
Everyone (hoping to) raising a family of readers should read it.

I believe every parent/guardian (regardless of how they chose to educate their children) should read this book! I had a read-aloud childhood myself so it came naturally to follow suit with my own children. Therefore there was a lot in the book that didn’t surprise me (such as the parts that describe the many benefits of reading aloud) but I still gleaned a great deal of encouragement, inspiration and wisdom!
Do yourself and your children a favor by reading this book and starting your journey as a read-aloud family! You won’t regret it!

I loved the encouragement throughout this book to continue on with something I believe to be very important. And the booklists in the back are gold! Friends of mine about to become parents will get this book and a few board books from the list as gifts from now on!
I really enjoyed this book. The importance of nonfiction, fiction, and picture books is what really caught my attention. Making sure you choose things, even if they are meant for a younger audience, to grasp your child’s attention is more important than picking books “on their level” that they have no interest in. I did like the book list at the back, but was hoping it would have included more. Definitely a good read for every family though.
Inspiring and practical tips for weaving in even more read aloud time and creating a “book club culture” with your kids. Excited to start checking off titles from her curated lists of the best books to read aloud! I’ll be bringing a board book with me in my hospital bag next month to read to baby
I devoured this book. Half parenting advice (told in the most down-to-earth and encouraging tone), and half delightful conversation about good books, this sweet read will help you love reading with your kids, from birth through the teen years. I will be revisiting this in the future.
