An important message, but the book could have used some editing. The first chapters are fairly repetitive and not all that helpful if you already read aloud regularly at home and find it valuable. I appreciated some points sprinkled throughout and the helpful book list at the end broken down by age bracket, but I had hoped to get more out of this book than I did.

DID NOT FINISH

OK this book just made me really mad/disappointed. Maybe it's my fault bc I didn't see what shelves it was on over on GR but I actually thought this was going to be a book ABOUT reading aloud to kids and why that's important. Not a book with a bunch of quotes, endless religion talk, and multiple descriptions of what being a SAHM is like.

This is not the book I thought it would be

I really enjoyed this book. It made me dive deeper into my read alouds for my kids, and creating a "book club" feel when reading aloud! The only thing I didn't like were some of her selections for high schoolers. I think sometimes we coddle high schoolers when recommending books to read...but otherwise, great ideas in this book, and I will definitely be returning to it as a resource.

I really wanted to like this book, but I didn’t feel like there was any real useful information here. I did like the list of 10 questions to ask your kids about what you’re reading, but nothing else stood out to me. I could see this being a great book for a parent who isn’t a big reader though to encourage a family reading dynamic.

I love books about reading! :)

The Read Aloud Family is a great source of inspiration for reading to your children even into their teens! The last few chapters include suggested read alouds to get you started.

Fantastic resource for any family!

As a book lover I can't help but appreciate this book and the message. I thought the last chapters of great read aloud books divided by age was helpful. I also thought the ten questions to ask your kids about what they read helpful too. I plan on implementing read aloud time in our house. I really fell away from this as my kids got older. It seemed silly to read to them out loud. However, I realize that this can be a small way for us to connect and relate with each other. We don't have many years left before they head out on their own.
