3.5 rounded up. I loved some of the points and there was great incentive and encouragement to read along. However, some points regarding religion came across very strong - I can’t remember the exact wording but it felt like it was adding pressure instead of encouragement. I am not familiar with the Read Aloud podcast, so as an introduction to the topic, I felt this was really great and parts of this should be read by all parents but parts could also cause additional stress on parents, hence the rating.
I have now read quite a few books about reading with your children and found this to be a bit of a repetition of these same ideas. Having said that if you hadn't read books on this theme this would be a great place to start as it is comprehensive in sharing the importance of reading and how to nurture children, and a home, which loves to read. I didn't enjoy the religious and Bible quotes throughout - I guess I prefer my parenting books a bit more secular.
Too religious and too long-winded for my taste. Some good reminders about our goals as parents, but it felt like the author quoted other authors too much and made passing references to too many books/characters for the focus to be on her own content. The book could have been distilled significantly.
Also, the author says she took her baby to the library and couldn't find ANY board books that were good enough to read to a one year old?! That just added to my dislike of the author's voice and tone in the book.

We love reading aloud and I love Sarah Mackenzie’s Read Aloud Revival podcast, so this was a natural choice for me to read. This book is a great encouragement for reading aloud, even when you’re busy or have older children. She addresses reading aloud to every age group and gives great book suggestions. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
I absolutely loved this book. I’ve struggled with figuring out the best way to read to my child and this book was a perfect blend of inspiration and practical advice. I know I’ll be returning to it many times over the next years

Great motivation to keep reading aloud to my kids! I also appreciate the lists of books for kids by age.
