DEUS EX RAY AND GEEZER, BITCHES!!!

Ahhh yis, my boys are back and ready to kick some demon ass, woot woot!!

Okay, okay, on a more serious note, this volume was incredible for a multitude of reasons, but the two major ones were the heightened emotions on both sides and the phenomenal use of shadow to create tension. Let's start with the emotions.

While it's only briefly mentioned, Nigel is disgusted with how distraught Nouma is for Nous's death. As far as I can remember, this is the first time a demon has shown any semblance of sadness for his/her comrade's death, and Nouma's reaction is easily the strongest so far. That being said, I loved how disgusted Nigel was since he himself mentions that the demons gleefully killed his friends and family and thus have no right to be heartbroken over losing one of theirs. And yet, I greatly appreciate Nouma's reaction because, as I previously mentioned, the series has not shown any demon emotionally react to any of their kind being killed, which sets them up to be cold-hearted asshats (I mean, they are, but that's beside the point). Having at least ONE of the demons react strongly to one of their kind dying gives the species as a whole more layers rather than making them unfeeling assholes. It's a small touch, but one I really appreciate.

The second thing I want to discuss is how well shadows were used to create tension in this volume. Granted, shadows are expertly used throughout this series, but the scene were Leuvis is walking down the street looking for Pepe was INTENSE because of the shadow's placement in that scene. Not only that, Leuvis's clearly inhuman appearance contrasted with the cheerful looking buildings and bright, sunny day makes this whole scene not only tense but disturbing. Also, the hunt in the underground tunnel with Bayon used shadows well to emphasize the cramped space and lack of light, making it a little difficult to see who all was there. Brilliantly handled scenes that really show the tension of each situation.

That's all for now. Looking forward to the climatic conclusion to this arc!

I can feel my heart in my throat while I read this, beating fast and fast and fast. So much adrenaline!!! This Goldy Pond arc might be my favorite yet. And the man definitely became a favorite character, along with the trio. Lewis is a fascinating villain as well, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the fight with him.

Fave moment: Ray and the man showing up and killing Nous. What a badass scene!!
