This book hooked me right away. The political structure and world-building were easily my favourite parts—so layered, dark, and genuinely immersive. I loved the complexity of the divine bloodlines, the Tradition, and how brutal yet fascinating the system of control felt.
That said, the romance was more of a struggle for me. While the tension between Tessalyn and Theon was compelling, the lack of communication and moments of toxicity made it hard for me to root for them as a couple. Their dynamic definitely fit the darker tone of the world, but I personally needed more emotional depth and growth to fully invest.
Still, the story was gripping overall, and I’ll definitely be continuing the series. The themes of power, identity, and survival kept me turning pages—even when the romance left me conflicted.
I never want to hear “little one” or “little storm” ever again

The start of this reminded me of a cross between The Broken Kingdom Series by LJ Andrews and The Shadow Bound Queen by Eliza Raine. Overall, it was a great read. I am left guessing about what the MFC is. And my educated guess is that she may be a Valkyrie, which may not even be the direction that the author is going in lol. However, isn't that the whole point of a good book? To leave the readers guessing? I am looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
Yikes …..
This book deserves two awards:
1) Somehow making it onto the market with 90% of dialogue being the characters telling each other they need to have a conversation about plot points that could instead just HAPPEN (also many said conversations-that-needed-to-be-held were not even held)
2) Repeating itself until the reader reaches their wit’s end
And can be an honorable mention for “Had No Business Being This Long”
I’m not exaggerating either because of disliking the book. In one of the chapters, different pairs of characters discussed needing to ‘have conversations’ 5 times back to back.
The characters were shallow and the plot moved slower than a tortoise with no legs.
Somehow worse than Fourth Wing congratulations.

So much depth to the characters already. A lot of emotional paths that the characters take and keeps you guessing and anticipating the next move they make. My heart feels for the FMC and I just want to see the rest of her journey so badly.
I will finish the série because the storyline is somewhat interesting, but I CANNOT stand Theon. His behaviour is unacceptable and as much as we love a protective main character, this is just too much, to the point that I felt uncomfortable reading some parts of the book. Let's not even talk about axel and Luka.
Even Tessa us frustrating af. There's Feyre's frustrating level and Violet frustrating level. Tessa is in the middle, frustrating af but it's somewhat understandable why. But also, no.
And I'm not sure if I've been reading so much romantasy that I'm just getting things faster than before or not, but the plot is very easy to guess and it's a bit disappointing. The only interesting thing that kept me going is to find out how everything came out.
