This is one of the first novels written in the 21st century that takes place during WWI and WWII, so one can say that I'm not necessarily fond of historic fiction. Over all, I liked the book, but I definitely had my problems learning all the characters' names and parts of the story. Sometimes, the long descriptive paragraphs were a bit much for my taste. However, I think, the book offers a good insight into the different eras and how homosexuality was seen during that period.
