This second book in the series made me feel like someone took the draft of it, cut it up, and pasted different parts of the story back together in the wrong spots before publishing. The characters seemed to change personalities mid-scene, the plot didn't flow, the romance was basically non-existent, and there was too much miscommunication and withholding information for my taste. What did excel was the imagery and setting. I loved getting to experience Foxglove Manor and its spirits, if for a little bit, and I enjoyed when Signa and Blythe actually acted like their precocious and crafty selves. I still have mildly high hopes for the next one.

This was such a good follow-up of Belladonna (which I gave five stars). I think most of my reserves was that this book was too short to stuff it full of all the things the author wanted to talk about. Signa's entire storyline was almost pushed to the side as the book went on in order to set up a storyline for Blythe in book 3. I wish most of the book had been Signa saving the ghosts at Foxglove. That was easily the most compelling and interesting section of the book, but instead it was mainly focused around Fate being annoying and Blythe trying to get her father released from prison.

I almost feel like this series should have been two books for Signa and two books for Blythe. Foxglove should have focused on solving more mysteries around Foxglove with Fate introduced at the end. And books 3 and 4 could have focused on Blythe. I just wanted more time to explore the relationship between Death and Signa. The ending almost felt as if the author got bored with Death/Signa. Their story was wrapped up way too easily with Blythe solving all of their problems.

Overall I liked the book, but Signa and Death deserved more time. I'm not the most excited for Wisteria because I really hated Fate as a character, it's going to take A LOT for me to like him as a romantic interest for Blythe.

Apart from the mystery portion of this book, I had predicted the rest of the plot. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I am going to start on the third book now since the physical copy just arrived.

Such a fun series

So good. Not quite as good as #1 but I thought it was fun and weird and I love Blythe. Excited to read #3
