i'm not a fan.

ok so occasionally there are some very good sentences which resonate - but mostly this is a book that is caught up in the trope of "weird shit gets good reviews because it's a bit like sally rooney on pills".

The narrative is fairly repetitive (each chapter either starts with ‘the man I want to be with’ or ‘the woman I am obsessed with’). I was initially invested in the narrator’s obsession with the woman, but it went nowhere. It was also not explained why the narrator was so obsessed with ‘the man I want to be with’. The timeline jumped around a bit, for no real reason. Overall I didn’t really enjoy it, but there was a fair amount of prose-y bits, which I think I would have enjoyed more if the character development was there.

Found this interesting and enjoyed the writing but definitely found sections of it a bit rambly and sometimes found the paragraphing a bit long so sometimes made it long to read. Found the characters really interesting - reminded me of sally Rooney in that you hated all the character but were intrigued by them.

Really enjoyed this writing style, although definitely wouldn’t be for everyone. Also enjoyed how extremely current and specific the experience was.

There are parts of this book which could have been built into a great collection of essays, there might even be a good short story in there. But as a novel, it was just not for me. There is no plot yet it still manages to be confusing and I hated every character.
