A nice conclusion to the King of Scars duo, although a tad anticlimactic.

I think at least half a star if not more is dedicated to the Crows that cameo because they're the reason I hoped Rule of Wolves would be better than King of Scars. Rule was somehow worse, and the plot made even less sense. The "plot twists" were more shock value than actually exciting, and there were some unnecessary subplots that cheapened the serious trauma some characters deal with. This was just a complete mess, way too fast paced due to too many subplots, and multiple characters drastically diverged from how they acted previously.

Rule of Wolves is a book that deals heavily with themes of war, grief, self-discovery, and acceptance. With drama and action in every chapter the book follows five individual perspectives through the quest for peace in Ravka. While it has more heavy than celebratory moments, the book still manages to champion themes of love and healing. Cinematic in it's scale, it is a book that is easy to get lost in, and as with previous Bardugo books, the ending both brings the story to a satisfying conclusion and leaves the door open for further adventures for a varied and diverse cast of characters.

This is officially my third favorite Grishaverse book, I think. Crooked Kingdom and Six of Crows still take the top two slots, but I loved how this brought so many characters together. There are some great twists and you can't tell me that ending isn't hinting at something else to come. It has to be.

Even though this book is long and there is a lot going on, it doesn't feel like it. I feel like I flew through this book, as Bardugo nails the pacing and has the right mix of characters and emotions. There's so much material for the show and I can't wait to see it all unfold.
