An enjoyable return of the first-family of the Marvel Universe.

I always love a good Fantastic Four story. Even with Slott who's best with Spider-Man comics because his shtick is mostly cheesy quippy dad jokes.

This book is just fun and you can tell the Dan Slot is having a blast writing these characters. I didn’t feel overwhelmed by not knowing the fantastic four that well, and the art was fantastic.

I thought this was okay. I have no idea if what’s presented here is supposed to link up with the previous volumes of the FF I read a couple years ago. I vaguely recall that they were all flitting about the universe and Johnny was freshly back from the dead *and* the future (or was that Franklin?) and Reed had cancer. I guess they solved all those problems.

Apparently Franklin and Valeria are teens now and Franklin can create entire universes, except when he can’t. (I’m guessing this will be one of those revelations down the road where we find out superpowers come from another dimension, or are powered by either heaven or hell, or somesuch.)

This is all about getting the gang back together, but it’s surprisingly dull for being a big family reunion concurrent with a giant fight against a cosmic entity alongside a whole platoon of former temporary FF members. The various reveals and twists are nice, I guess, but they don’t land solid hits. They couldn’t even elicit a smile from me.

I guess I’m done with the FF. This is now the third creative team doing this book in recent years and I’ve been unimpressed with all of them. Oh well.

Admittedly, I just read this for the build up to The Thing’s wedding. But it was a lot of fun.

I deducted a star because with the 5 year time jump, all the pre-teen members of The Future Foundation now have D-cups. Which... gross.
