There’s a lot of body shame, dysmorphia, and anxiety that I wasn’t prepared for, and sometimes the writing style bothered me, but ultimately I enjoyed the book. There were some laugh out loud moments and it was fun overall.

The plot was so unrealistic that I started thinking about how many stars I’d rate this book before it was even over. I was having a good time, but also could not believe all of this happened to this one group of people. Then I decided to be free from the shackles of fiction needing to be “believable” to be enjoyable and enjoyed the ride. I really loved these characters and their various chaotic choices. I also liked the main character’s thoughtful journey with her body image (though readers who struggle with this may want to tread carefully). Lastly, some early details that I believed to be mundane turned out to be important in the third act. Successful covert foreshadowing! Totally snookered me, which I can’t help but respect.

I would’ve loved to see more of the love interest on the page. I feel like we only got a few scenes of them being together and falling in love. That it was kind of surprising that at the end they just were like yeah we’re in love now. Really enjoyed the story. It was very deep and and had to focus on body love and self love.

She’s a filmmaker, he’s a heroic coast guard rescue swimmer. They’re thrown together for a job.
This was a “stay up late to finish reading” book for me. The story immediately kicked off with compelling and funny characters. The pacing of the story was good, and when I thought I might get tired of the body image issues, things shifted. It’s a romance, but her books always have a deeper storyline and I really enjoyed this one.
While the main characters felt really thought out, the side characters were sometimes less developed. This didn’t detract from the story though. The humor REALLY carried me through. I think this author is an auto-buy for me.
