A good story, fluid storytelling - a good read. Apparently became a bbc series with Helen Mirren? Kinda want to see that.

I was a fan of the show, but I am bailing on the book. Jane is written as deliberately unlikable, IMO, despite the female author. She "shrieks," she's nasty and hectoring, etc. Weird from a female author, but is it just incredibly dated and un-examined?

Even though I'd seen the series numerous times, I was riveted until the end. The book and show are virtually identical in plot, and even some dialogue, but I enjoyed the little bit of enhanced introspection that the written word allows versus the show.
