I really liked this book because it was set in working class Ireland, a setting which I haven't ever read about before, but the protagonist's life seemed really authentic and not overly-romanticised. it was also a really funny and lighthearted read in many ways because the main character was constantly making jokes as if she was talking to the reader. even though I think this book was supposed to be a romance novel, I felt like the plot didn't really involve much romance until the very end, which made it seem like actually the romance part wasn't really that important. the book also dealt with some big issues that the protagonist faced, and addressed the struggles of growing up poor in Ireland. overall this was an entertaining and unique book with a very likeable protagonist that I would recommend :)

I started reading this book with absolutely no expectations because I didn't buy it purposefully, I just saw that it was on sale and knew it had a lesbian main character which is more than enough to get me to buy a book. Instead I got 2 lesbian main characters and a book that's easily become one of my favourites. I have to admit, the Kristen Stewart references did get me very early on. I'm a sucker for K Stew references, can you blame me? But apart from that the story is so captivating and not necessarily because it's so adventurous, which it is, but because the characters and the plot feel so natural. Aideen is such a complex character with such real flaws and struggles.
I was so happy that she got the ending she deserved. She got the girl, she got friends, she got closure and she's getting the help she so desperately needs.
Rating this book 4.75 ⭐️ instead of 5 solely because the romance is so slow-burn. Definitely check trigger warnings before reading!

I actually went into this knowing basically nothing, and I was pleasantly surprised! Aideen has a great voice and she's really attempting to keep her life together. It's a bit enemies to lovers, and the relationship between Aideen and Meabh is slow moving but sweet. I loved it. The ending maybe felt a little abrupt to me, but other than that, this is a fantastic coming of age novel.
