I must have reread this not too long ago because I did remember random plot points that there's no way I remembered from middle school. someone else on here pointed out that there was part of the description on the book cover that never happened and I kind of find that to be awesome/hilarious! my favorite part was when they were trying to escape and kept lugging their luggage with them. literally running with a suitcase. these books are so good for some kicks

It's the very first Fear Street Super Chiller, and I remembered this one from my youth as not exactly leaving me too thrilled. It still didn't impress me as I read it with my adult eyes. The premise is interesting enough by introducing us to family members of the infamous Simon Fear, and there are hints of paranormal activity. Still, it never manages to chill the bones as one might hope. Must be the darn summer weather.

Let's run down those YA Thriller totals:

0 dead bodies

Gratuitous slime
Gratuitous pentacle tracing
Gratuitous ponytail
Gratuitous spiderweb
Gratuitous party talk

Hunting rifle fu
Spider fu
Bat fu

Awful 90s dialogue: there is a discussion of "dissing someone," and the declaration of "party summer" never manages to land.

For the cover art, we get characters Cari and Jan (presumably) startled by a shadowy stalker on a sandy beach. Meh at best.

One star; check it out if you dare, but it's not essential.

A fun, quick read! Perfect for killing a reading slump. It moved along well, nice short chapters. Everything was pretty predictable but it's expected from these books. Perfectly formulaic! It also made me realize how much YA books loooove describing what people are wearing. Like...is that a teen thing, being obsessed with outfits? Literally every outfit worn by every character was described fully every day

A cute little read...A bit boring near the end.

RL stein is RL Stein. Cheesy 90s children horror. Reminds me of being a kid after growing out of the Goosebump series.

Great stuff
