Very cute. This is the first Susan Mallery novel I have read. Exciting to find a new author I like. Can't wait to start the Fool's Gold series.
I absolutely love books where the main characters find each other after years apart. And the sections written from the point of view of the daughter were exactly how I would imagine an 8-year-old reacting!
Not my favorite. I'm willing to forgive a lot of crazy pacing in romance (who doesn't fall madly in love in one week?!) but this was egregious. To go from divorce to making out with another person in two days? I hadn't bought into the characters enough yet to overlook it.
I was enjoying it well enough, as far as romance novels go. Jill was a sharp and fairly take-no-answers sort of heroine, and I'm all for that. Mac wasn't exactly my type of hero, but he was a good character to read -- his relationship with his daughter was more compelling to me than the romance, really, but it was all good.
At least, until the very end, when all that powerful feminine strength faded away into the the expectation that the hero (Mac) would do all the work in the relationship, understand everything she wasn't saying, and run after her. What just happened? This drama was unexpected, written badly, and really rather unnecessary. The book lost me there, and right at the last chapter, too. :\

I've read and enjoyed many books by Susan Mallery, yet somehow managed to overlook this short series. I finished Book 1 last night, and started Book 2 this morning. So much fun.
Kinda struggled with this one. The characters felt a little flat..but a sweet overall story
hopeful
tense
medium-paced

I just found this series and decided it might be a good read. Though it was kind of different from her usual books, I still loved it and couldnt wait to read the next book about Gracie
Another great read from Susan Mallery starting the Los Lobos series. Jill lost everything in one day, her high powered law job, her husband, and her home. She heads back to the small town she grew up in, the town she vowed she'd never come back to, to get her head on straight and plan her next move. It doesn't take long for her to realize she no longer wants the cheating husband or the home they shared together back, but she can't wait to find a job with a new law firm. Small town law issues are not how she imagined her career going but after a while they become challenges all of their very own. Mac worked for years as a detective for the LAPD but after losing his partner and watching his marriage dissolve accepting the position as sheriff in Los Lobos is a great way to slow down his life and reconnect with his daughter. Jill isn't looking for anything serious so a summer fling with Mac is just what she needs. Except he's a lot more charming then she's remembers from high school and Mac can't help to fall for the woman she's become. Can these two find happiness from what was supposed to be short term? Fun and funny, great read!
