One of the reasons I love this is the way she writes about her parents. Reminds me that as a mom I'm not as opaque as I think I am. Reminds me also what being young really felt like, not the romanticized John Hughes film I half remember.

Caldwell's essays of friendships, anxiety, malaise and exploration are raw and well-crafted, if repetitive. She remains one of my favorite writers.
