This era of tumblr poetry popularized by Lang Leav and Rupi Kaur needs to end! Also, I don't like the font used in this book (petty, I know).

Unfollowing You by Komal Kapoor is poetry 'set' in today's world and follows a relationship in a chronological tale. I like the style of this book, it has many formate, poems, prose, texts, screen grabs, and unsent letters. The poems felt personal. While I did feel a few poems repeated it's self, I found that I still like most of the poems in this book. I enjoyed how social media played a part in the poetry style. This was a fun, a unique read in today's digital world.

I was given a NetGalley copy, this is a 100% honest review.

Whew. I'm sorry. I didn't like this. In form, it reminded me a bit of Rupi Kaur's work but without the nuance/delicacy. To be fair, I'm not wild about her work either. This just doesn't work for me. While detailing a relatable experience (insert comment about being a single 20-something woman in the age of online dating here), I couldn't get past how cheesy and amateur this felt to me.

This is a long format Taylor Swift song (in a good way). All the drama and angst of our generation, beautifully written in a poetic narrative. Kapoor has done the remarkable thing of somehow putting the reader into the experience- as if it were second person, but without all the weirdness. This is a a 20-30 something American life, and could become original source material for future historians. Wonderfully arranged and fantastically told- whole heartedly love this.

We are living in the age of the Instagram poet, and I can't wait for it to be over.
