Well whoa ... you quickly learn this is a "fish out of water" tale. Meg has no knowledge of the Slayer Academy or why anyone would need a Slayer Academy. She gets shipped out to the Slayer Academy within hours of finding out that she is the 5th Generation of Slayers in her family. She learns she must fight and kill the Fae because they are evil.

The makes some friends, takes some classes, has a tryst and decides her path. Will it lead her to the "Legacy" status she seems to have?

I received this as an Advance reader copy with the hope I would enjoy it an want to review it.

I really love Megara, Fiore and Brutus along with Meg's friends. After being thrown to the dogs so to speak with her parents and grandmother telling her she is a fae slayer Megara isn't so happy with them. She doesn't want to fight or kill because she doesn't believe that all far are bad. I cant wait to see how everything ends up and if she gets in over her head.

Typical but not particularly good paranormal academy story with girl suddenly finding out about paranormal world and heading off to slayer school. There is the mysterious fae (who are the slayer's enemies) and the hot bully with the mean girlfriend. Meg was not a bad heroine but there was nothing special about her either. So why didn't it work for me. First and foremost I was super irritated with the way her parents kept her slayer hertiage and whole fae world from her until the day she has to leave for slayer school. I mean sure don't tell her while she is growing up but she had already done a year of college, has the summer off and bam today to go to slayer school. You couldn't have told her after high school, or you know the previous week? It was dumb. Next there is Meg meekly toddling off to school cause her parents said so, even though she didn't want to. She was 19 and had already been to college - she is an adult and didn't have to go. It was weird.
Now putting aside those 2 things aside (which I struggled to do cause it was so stupid. There was no REASON for them) the story and characters lacked depth. And then there is Brutus. I know there trend is for 'bully' romances at academies now but I personally don't like them. Bullying is not a trait I find attractive no matter how hot he is. That just makes the relationship totally about looks cause it can't be about liking the person cause that is just not likeable behaviour. So while others may enjoy this one is not for me and I wont be continuing the series.

This is the first book by Amelia Shaw i have read and i really enjoyed it and im totally looking forward to reading the second book of this series.

Megara learns that her family has been hunting fae for generations and that she is to attend the slayer academy herself to follow her family legacy. There she will have to learn how to become a fae hunter but she will start to doubt if everything they are told about the fae is the truth.

This story pulled me right in and I found this book well written and the storyline is good despite the fact that there is not much action in this one. This first installment is more of an introduction to what will happen in later books in the series. Can't wait to see what will happen next.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am volontarily leaving a review.
