Unfortunately I did not really like this book. The style of writing did not engage me and I felt like I was struggling to get through it. In addition the plot seemed a little "lifetime" to me.
I liked this book although it was pretty predictable for me. I knew the outcome about 75-100 pages in to the book. Maybe that's just because I read these types of books often. I really enjoyed how the backstory unfolded. A lot of those details were unpredictable and they were as shocking to us as they were to the main character. I also appreciated how the author continually emphasized the reasoning behind the deceased sister's actions. Specifically, her relationship with her mother and her immaturity as a 17 year old. That being said, the mother character was frustrating to me because she seemed to be a very involved and loving mother and although her motives get explained as the story unravels, I still didn't understand her complete 20 year shut down. And then how quickly she bounced back at the very end. It was very all over the place and almost ruined the rest of the book for me. I honestly thought that the main character was going to end up in a relationship with the old roommate and the fact that the roommate's presence was kept up throughout the book in short reminders of her existence such as a text message, but never fleshed out and resolved was highly disappointing. I think someone new to this genre/reading for fun would enjoy this book but veterans should find something else.
fast-paced
The Winter Sister is a twisted tale of dark secrets. The story of murder, family drama and guilt kept me up until 4am reading. I suspected everyone, crossed them off my list but then would come back to them as the story continued.

Sylvie is the younger sister and one night she makes a decision that affects her for the rest of her life. Her older sister Persephone doesn't come home one night and days later is found murdered. It is now many years later and Sylvie is returning home to take care of her mother as she battles cancer and in returning home she decides to really figure out what happened to her sister all those years ago.
I always love a book where the main character goes back home and in that revisits things from the past and finds the truth. I loved watching Sylvie follow the clues and I was completely satisfied with the resolution - always a big thing for me in a mystery book.
