Really hard to rate, some entries I loved, some struck me as dreadfully repetitive. (It might also be a case of I'm enough of a fangirl to have heard him speak, and he touches a lot of these elements in his talks.)

Several of the included introductions started with a command to read the book first then come back, which is fine as an introduction (though shouldn't you just call it an afterward then?) but doesn't work well in a collection.

My favorites were the very first and very last few entries.

Essential reading for anyone who appreciates the art of storytelling. Neil Gaiman's voice is just as distinctive in his non-fiction writing as in his stories. I love his insights on other writers and stories. I definitely will read some of the authors and books that he feels highly about.

I'm throwing in the towel on this one. Still counting it as read because I listened to at least half of it, but it was a lot of writing about books I haven't read, comics I'm not familiar with, and authors I don't know. I still want to read more NG and will seek out other books.

On to Gloria Steinem's bio!

Tore through this!

Although I am unfamiliar with people in several of the articles/forewords in this collection, I still enjoyed the book overall. Many of the "chapters" gave insights to Neil Gaiman and some of the events and people who have been significant in his life.

Neil's collection of non-fiction is mostly comprised of short essays on various topics and speeches he's given at conferences. The book reads like a combination self-help and biography. This isn't required reading for Gaiman fans, but it is a fun read for anyone that enjoys short narratives, introspective essays and the occasional brush with fame. Although the book is lengthy, none of the speeches or essays are too long. It's easy to skim the contents and read only what pulls you.

4.0

I am a big fan of Gaiman so this was a no brainer for me. Listening to it in audio is so much better. There were pieces that I found more interesting than others but that did not diminish my enjoyment of it. I loved the Pratchett pieces and his discussions of comic books and literature.

Read the first few essays. Need to come back to this later!

This is not a novel but a collection of introduction to other's people books, interviews, articles and so on; so you may wondering why reading it if it's not a story? Well, yours is a good question but it's clear that you don't love Neil Gaiman, because everything he wrote you should read, as far as I'm concerned obviously, even because otherwise, you wouldn't have the opportunity to read about the time he spent with Stephen or Neil Pratchett, just to say two names.....

THANKS TO EDELWEISS AND WILLIAM MORROW FOR THE PREVIEW!
