A simple, fun, light hearted read.
I loved this book. I enjoyed the story line and the author's humour the most. The main characters were annoying at times but the romantic scenes and dialogue made up for it. The resolution at the end seemed a bit off though.
Overall, I enjoyed the narrative voice, the insights into the main character's thought process was mostly relatable, character development was focused on the main character and so was the whole story, but at least her relationship with the minor characters remained interesting.

Leading character, Laura, is very weak, contradictory and uninteresting. Had to skip the last 80 pages or so to get to the predictable epilogue. I have liked Fforde’s writing in the past so perhaps I’ve grown out of this style.
I am a sucker for Katie Fforde, and I have found that I sometimes will read one of hers and think it's weak but then read it again and like it. . . But I'm afraid that won't be the case for Love Letters. If I read it during vacation, on a weekend away in a hotel with my best friend and after reading a mega-length fantasy novel (deep breath), and I STILL think it takes WAY TOO LONG to get where it's going (requisite happy ending) with WAY TOO LITTLE action (aka it's boring) and WAY TOO TRITE overall--I'm afraid it's just not one of her better endeavors. Too bad!
. . . and maybe if I'd reread that review BEFORE I finished the book for a second time feeling just about exactly the same way, I'd've saved myself some time. But oh well.

I love a good fluffy romance as much as the next person but I was really disappointed by this one - especially since Katie Fforde is well-known and popular. On the plus side I liked the setting in the books/publishing world, and I find the main couple (Laura and Dermot) attractive and appealing. The story is quite long - Katie makes her couple go through many hoops before they reach their happy ending - but I was happy to keep turning pages to see what happens. However I saw absolutely no character / relationship development, the sense that their attraction was growing or developing. I mean, Love at First Sight is all very well, but we are supposed to believe that the Hero sees the pretty girl and Bam! that's it? Grumpy reclusive hero thereafter turns into some puppy eager to please the heroine's every whim? Oh Please! I don't usually have a problem suspending my disbelief in a good rollicking story, but Love Letters just tests my abilities too far.
A really good Katie Fforde. I haven't like some of her later ones but feel that she is back on form with this one. Great characters, perfect setting ( a bookshop), and the romance is completely believable.
I would first like to state that this book has been "read-ish." I read the first fifty pages and skimmed the remaining. I couldn't bring myself to actually finish it. The writing was bland, the characters stereotypical, and the spelling was atrocious (Yes I do recognize that she is British, no I am not referring to the culturally different spellings). I have to say, for such a great synopsis, this book was a huge disappointment.
It was fairly enjoyable eventually; the character development is good, and there are relatively few mistakes--silly ones like 'they're' instead of 'their' and the like. Any annoyance with the timid Laura at the beginning is removed by the end.
I've had this since it was released, yet only just got around to reading it. Not my favourite Katie Fforde book but, saying that, it's not one of my favourite genres to read any more - I'm just trying to read books that I already own. It was a quick read, fairly enjoyable and the usual, girl meets boy story. One thing that I am confused about...where did the title come from?!
