Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Percy was the one teaching Frank and Hazel about all the different monsters, like "oh yea I've fought that". He literally had no memory but was still teaching them. Oh how much he's grown since The Lightning Thief when Annabeth had to explain everything to him. Also, I've been thinking about how some people get annoyed with how clueless Percy is in the first series, but if he already knew everything and Annabeth didn't have to explain everything, then the readers would probably be pretty confused and wouldn't learn as much about greek mythology as they do while reading. Like yeah, Annabeth is explaining the myths to Percy, but she's also explaining them to us.

Anyways, I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think I liked The Lost Hero better. I just really love the dynamic of Jason, Leo, and Piper. I feel like Percy, Frank, and Hazel didn't have the same connection as them. Don't get me wrong, I like Frank and Hazel (they are super cute together and at least they didn't take 5 books to get together) but I was getting kind of annoyed with their backstories and I felt like they were dragged out a bit. For example, I forgot that Frank didn't always know he can shape shift, so it was really painful to watch him go this whole book trying to figure out what his family gift is. So yeah, I loved getting to se Percy again, but I honestly miss Jason. I'm interested to see how I end up liking the characters when they are all together though, because in these first two books each trio is isolated from the other and Annabeth isn't even there at all. I also think the reason I felt like this book was drawn out is that I put it down and read like 5 fast paced books and then finally came back to finish this one.
It was really interesting to see Percy in a new environment, after 5 books of the same place and same characters. Something I was confused about is that even though Percy is greek, he still understands latin. For example, on page 35, he understands the names of Reyna's dogs. I don't know, I guess it's probably because he was taught by Lupa and stuff. Also, speaking of Reyna, I totally forgot that her sister, Hylla, was the leader of the Amazons. I went back and read the section of The Sea of Monsters and sure enough, on page 172, it talks about Hylla taking Percy and Annabeth on a tour of Circe's island. It doesn't ever mention Reyna though, at least not by name.

Also, as I was going through my tabs in this book, I found this gem on page 53 (for context they are at Jupiter's temple in Camp Jupiter):

In the center stood a marble altar... Jupiter the sky god, dressed in a silk XXXL purple toga, holding a lightning bolt.
"It doesn't look like that," Percy muttered.
"What?" Hazel asked.
"The master bolt," Percy said.
"What are you talking about?"
"I--" Percy frowned. For a second he thought he remembered something. Now it was gone. "Nothing, I guess."

idk, I just thought it was really funny.

Oh my gosh and then when Percy met Nico and he pretended not to know Percy?? (page 60) I totally forgot about that. I remember so little from this book, that I was starting to get worried that I hadn't actually read it before, but there are some really random parts of this book that I remembered while reading. Um speaking of Nico, it was so sad how he basically thought of Hazel as the sister he wouldn't be able to get back, Bianca. (page 68 and 309)

Also just a fun lesson I learned from this book: Romans fight more stabby stabby, while greeks fight more slashy slashy. (page 139)

I also feel like there was a lot of foreshadowing in this book, not only to the rest of the series, but also to ToA, or maybe I'm just grasping at straws. (page 161/162)

Overall, I loved not only the foreshadowing in this book, but also all the callbacks to the previous books (ex: page 263) as Percy regained his memory. Oh and one more thing, everyone talks about dam, but why is no one talking about schist? That part was so funny. (page 224)
Oh and I gotta say that I think my favorite part of this whole book is actually the scene that's depicted on the cover where the whole glacier is collapsing and Percy is just there, saving the day as always. (page 461)

This was a really chaotic review, anyways I'll just leave you with this (page 363):

"Life is only precious because it ends, kid."
-Mars
